De Montfort University has developed OPTIcut, a cutting-edge web-based decision support system offering precision agriculture in the banana business. It uses state of the art artificial intelligence and 3D image processing algorithms providing optimized cutting strategies and fruit profiles tailored to each farm. Banana hands are cut into clusters for packing. This generates variable amounts of fruit waste depending on the cutting strategy used.
Cutting strategies are currently based on human experience and their number can be exponential. Therefore, there is a clear need to produce data driven optimized cutting strategies which can minimize waste and maximize profit. OPTIcut also offers producers the capacity to estimate the amount of fruit available in every farm (fruit profiles), per type of cut and to record fruit damage to make strategic decisions. We are currently looking for ways to promote OPTIcut and attract investors and funding opportunities.

The farm is host to various events throughout the year that aim to educate, entertain and enlighten guests. Godminster Farm is set on the outskirts of the picturesque town of Bruton in the heart of Somerset. The farm was registered organic in 1999 by our owner Richard Hollingbery whose environmentally friendly and ethical approach to farming meant organic was the only way. With 1300 acres of beautiful landscape, the farm not only homes 280 organic dairy cows but also boasts fruitful orchards filled with a variety of delicious fruits and herbs which are used as inspiration for many of the Godminster products.
The cows at Godminster Farm enjoy a simple and wholesome life and as a result produce a deliciously creamy milk. The freshness of the milk and the sustainable approach to farming is a major contributor to the delicious and distinctive taste of our award-winning Godminster cheese and we hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
‘Kaiapoi’ is Maori meaning ‘food over water’. We have imported Romney Rams from New Zealand to create the ultimate outdoor lambing ewe for the UK climate.
Rob and Jo Hodgkins set up Kaiapoi in 2013 with 200 ewes on 60 rented acres of grass. They have driven the business forward hard and now run 2250 ewes across 1000ac semi improved grassland and solar panels and farm 1600ac of arable crops around North Hertfordshire.
Kettle Produce Ltd
Kettle Produce Ltd was established in 1985 by two farming families from Fife, Scotland. They have a vast experience in vegetable production and have been growing in partnership since 1976.
There are now over 50 farmers growing in partnership with Kettle Produce Ltd. They supply a range of products that support the four main categories of the business. They are roots, Brassicas, salads and prepared vegetables.
The supply of vegetables from Kettle Produce Ltd isn’t confined to Scotland. In 2003, Kettle Produce Espána SL was formed as a joint venture based in Murcia, Spain. There are also several strategic supply partnerships with major growers in England, France, Spain and Portugal. In total, there are over 6,000 hectares of crops grown across the UK and Continental Europe.
Kettle Produce Ltd has two main sites of production, Balmalcolm and Orkie which are located two miles apart. The Balmalcolm site operations include Brassicas, salads and prepared vegetables and is also the centre for the administrative function. The Orkie site incorporates all root washing, grading and packing.
Mackie’s Westertown Farm
Home to Mackie’s of Scotland is Westertown Farm, a 1600 acre farm in Aberdeenshire, where the wind, land and cows help produce fresh milk and power for the business – including the byre, ice cream dairy and chocolate factory.
This has become our “Sky to Scoop” process for making Ice cream where the wind provides power for the farm that grows the crops to feed the cows who make the milk (and cream) to make Mackie’s ice cream. It’s a wonderful environment and we’re committed to keeping it that way, both visually and by adopting ‘green’ working practices.

Overbury Farms is Cotswold arable farm with sheep on Bredon Hill on the Worcestershire Gloucestershire borders.
Part of family owned Overbury Enterprises, the farm covers 1,565 hectares and surrounds the picturesque villages of Overbury and Conderton.
RAU Manor Farm
Incorporating a range of different farming systems, our farms demonstrate a mix of enterprises run on a commercial basis.
The University farms are based at two locations in close proximity to the campus. Coates Manor Farm and Harnhill Manor Farm total 491 hectares in size (1,200 acres), and offer very different farming systems. There is also an equine enterprise providing a stabling and livery facility at Fossehill Farm. All the enterprises are run on a commercial basis, and our students benefit through access to their physical and financial data.Coates Manor Farm is predominantly arable cropped, with some pasture land supporting the equine activity.
We currently grow feed and milling wheat, oilseed rape and spring malting barley.
Shimpling Park Farm
The family have farmed here for four generations, and since 1999 we have farmed organically for our family as well as helping like minded neighbouring farmers who share our passion for soils, the countryside and naturally good food. With a motivated and enthusiastic team we aim to farm leaving our soil in good heart for future generations.

Upper Nisbet Farm
The Neill family took on the tenancy of Upper Nisbet in May 2000. They run 300 Limousin-cross cows on 438ha. They farm 242ha of cereals, and all progeny from the suckler herd are finished on home-grown fodder and sold live throughout the year mostly to local butchers.

The Milk Suppliers Association (MSA) is a Co-operative made up of 131 dairy farmers based throughout South West Scotland that supply approximately 210 million litres of milk per annum to a creamery in Stranraer owned by Lactalis. Lactalis is a leading global dairy business and the largest European milk processor. The creamery at Stranraer produces a range of cheddar cheeses under the brands Seriously Strong, Galloway and McLelland. Cheese is also supplied to retailers for their individual own label brands.
