Focussing on the use of novel technologies and management systems to demonstrably improve dairy herd health and sustainably increased milk yields, the South West Dairy Development Centre draws on established best practice in animal husbandry and emerging technological advances, including: robotics, 3D imaging, environmental control, feed, soil health, wearable technology, sensor-driven data collection and measurement.
Supporting the sustainable and profitable future of British dairy and beef farming, our Calf Research and Innovation Facility is focussed on improving calf growth, health and welfare for increased resilience, yields and longevity of our national dairy and beef herds. Our Facility provides unique research and development opportunities for dairy farmers, feed and nutrition manufacturers, milk processors, retailers, pharmaceutical and technology companies.
Our Midlands Dairy Research Centre’s facilities enable scientists, the dairy industry and agri-engineering companies to research and develop the next generation of dairy housing and management. Through self-determined resting and nutrition, in partnership with Harper Adam’s University, our cutting-edge facilities and academic partnerships offer a wealth of research and development opportunities, delivering unparalleled expertise in cow and calf behaviour and welfare, experimental design, statistical analysis and reporting.
The Midlands Piggery focusses on delivering the latest research, technology and husbandry techniques to demonstrate and deliver innovation in the commercial breeding of piglets and farmed pigs. Largely focussed on large-scale commercial farms, feed providers and processors, the Piggery is based at Harper Adam University’s award-winning indoor Pig Unit. Taking advantage of new technology and ongoing investment, this key combination helps ensure high welfare standards for all the pigs and piglets, including 220 highly prolific crossbred sows.
