Lambda produces photo-active films that can be applied to greenhouses or used in polytunnels, to increase crop yields by circa 20%. The film absorbs sunlight in the frequencies that matter least and re-emits red light, optimising the blue to the red ratio for photosynthetic processes. Their active film requires no electricity to function and will therefore reduce the cost of electrical lighting significantly. The active material will emit the converted light in all directions, enabling more light to penetrate the plant canopy and reach the leaves down below. Their materials will also convert UV light, thus decreasing the UV damage to the plastics used in polytunnels and greenhouse glazing, leading to longer lasting plastics and lower plastic waste.
