Farm visit to Godminster Farm

Technologists, farmers and advisers get together on-farm
The sun came out for a brilliant on-farm day hosted by Agri-EPI Centre at the organic dairy farm of the year, Godminster Farm, on the 24th of March 2022. Godminster Farm is located outside of Bruton, Somerset, and its historic pedigree dates back to the Doomsday Book of 1086 which records that people have been living on the land since then. It is home to their very own herd of 320 organic dairy cows that graze the field hedgerows around the farm. People have been farming the land for generations, and since 2000, Godminster Farm has been certified Organic with the Soil Association.
Agri-EPI Centre exists to bridge the gap between the people creating innovative new agricultural technologies, and those who benefit from them. Part of this involves hosting events to connect innovators, farmers and academics from across the agricultural sector. At this most recent farm walk, Godminster Farm Manager Peter Cheek and Farm Consultant Tom Tolputt led a group of over 30 guests from across the industry on a farm walk to view dairy herds, calves, herbal leys and tech being trialled on farm, and to discuss soil health and slurry management. Additional presenters included representatives from Aquapulse, Smartbell, and Mastek, and many connections were made throughout the day across industry leaders.

“It was great to get out on-farm and speak with technologists, farmers and other industry representatives about the realities of day to day farming. You could see the network become active and it brought the meaning of ‘together we can’ to life, as we saw how working together as an industry we can support sustainable farming” – Annabelle Gardner, Membership & Events Manager at Agri-EPI Centre
