Big data to improve beef and dairy productivity in New Zealand

Agri-EPI Centre, United Kingdom, and Massey University, New Zealand are collaborating to understand the variation in productivity across New Zealand’s beef and dairy sector, and how this variation relates to greenhouse gas emissions per unit of food produced.

KASP Genomic Selection

This project directly addresses the challenge of improved food security and livelihoods for international development. For about half a billion people in Asia, most of them poor, rice provides over 50% of the caloric supply so the size and stability of the rice harvest is crucial. The simplest way to increase yields is by the breeding of new rice varieties with greater resistance to diseases and pests and improved tolerance to stresses.

Precision Soil Mapping

The research relates to the development of novel approaches for precision farming and food security. This is a subject of interest in the general public, and accordingly the project has generated substantial press and media interest. The project has been reported in a number of Industry and practitioner media, culminating in a interview on Radio Four Farming Today. These non-academic impacts reveal the extent of the wider interest themes that the project research topic relates to.
